TRANSPORT TYCOON SEMI-FAQ
A FAQ for those who need more, more, more information and strategies about Transport Tycoon.
Part 14: Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame allows you, the addicted TT player, the opportunity to
show off your skills to the world. All you have to do is send me the
statistics of your best game, and I'll post them here for the world
to see. Email your statistics to webmaster@i-want-a-website.com.
You should send statistics on how much money you have, your difficulty settings,
the game year, the status of your rivals, the climate and map you used, and
any strategies you executed.
- CHiLDiNTiMe (kurt@yunord.net) [New September 4]
Game version: TT Deluxe

Cash: $2.886.055.000
Profit per year: Around $120-130 million
Company value: aprox. $2.892.000.000
Rating: 1000 (Tycoon of the Century)
Company name: Kandakodzainebojsatrans
Difficulty level: Custom (2 competitors, fairly easy)
Map: "roroland" temperate
Vehicles: 76 trains, 17 road vehicles, 23 aircraft, 5 ships
Most profitable vehicle: long distance one-headed Chimaera with passengers and mail, earning $9.5 million in 2049
Strategy: Huge train networks for coal, iron ore and wood, long distance goods lines, long distance planes carrying goods or passengers.
- Owen Rudge [New August 11]
Game Version: Transport Tycoon Deluxe
Date: 18th January 2050
Cash: £343,513,066 (or if you prefer, $687,026,132)
Profit per Year: About £11-12 million a year
Company Value: About £363 million
Rating: President (904) - been like this since the late 1980s
Company Name: Owen Transport Ltd.
Difficulty Level: Custom (based on Easy)
Map: Random Temperate
Vehicles: 42 trains, 80 road vehicles, 10 aircraft, 11 ships
Largest City: Grubourne (5269)
Best Train: Long coal train earning over £800,000 a year
Rivals: Absolutely useless (and many have existed - I bought many of the good ones - not that there were many!!!)
Number of Sawmills on Map: 4 - all the other ones closed, and about 20 years
ago, there were probably only 2!!!
Bugs: Dead oil rig bug
Saved games: A few from various points in the game available from http://www.owenrudge.co.uk/TT/
Strategies: When you're starting out, subsidies are your best friend (they
can also earn you big money later in the game - my most complicated part of
my complicated train network started as a subsidy: Iron Ore -> Steel ->
Factory -> Town. Now there are many iron ores going to two steel mills,
which goes to one factory, which goes to a town). Use them. I did virtually
every one possible. Also, long coal and wood trains can bring the money
rolling in. Also, stick with steam trains until the SH 86 (or the 100mph
diesel if you want).
- Michael Towler [Updated]
Game Version: TT Original
Company Name: Prenningstone Transport
Cash on Hand: $4,294,589,098
Company Value: At least $25 billion
Profit: $575,000,000 + per Year
Date: 2073, I have a 49 year old ship which was built in 2024 but got stuck under a
monorail bridge allowing me to tell what year I am in.
Difficulty: Custom
Rating: 1000 (Tycoon)
Vehicles: 79 trains, 43 road vehicles, 13 aircraft and 15 operational ships + 1 stuck ship.
Most profitable: Darwin 500 jet, long distance 2072 profit $783,000,000
Strategy: Quickly get your company firmly established and sabotage opponents
road vehicles. Place lots of trees to get your rating up. When your available
cash reaches its maximum your annual profit drops to practically $0.
- David Pardy
Date: March, 2050
Company Name: Umina Transport Services
Money at the moment: $1,329,876,814 exactly when I
saved the game
Company Value: Something above $1,500,000,000
Difficulty: Hard
Map: Randomly generated
Rating: 894, Mogul or whatever it was again...
Competitors: One word - crap.
Monster Profitable Vehicle: Dinger 200 getting full
loads every trip,
making roughly 7-9 million each year.
Strategy: None, get rid of vehicles that are losing
money or make sure they're running efficient routes, I could have made
lots more money if it weren't for a few stupid mistakes...
- Lolailow@hotmail.com
Game version: TT Deluxe
Company Name: BoinaJet @ Rivers
Cash on hand: $4,054,149,204 ($4.05 billion)
Company value: $4,280,808,666 ($4.28 billion)
Profit: over $270 million a year
Date: 10th Feb 2050
Difficulty: Custom (harder than hard, 7 competitors)
Map: Rivers, Rivers, Rivers... (made by Lasso & Espen
Hovlandsdal)
Rating: 883, Chairman (has been at 984)
Vehicles: 31 trains, 32 road vehicles, 29 aircraft, 8 ships
(total 100)
Most profitable vehicle: $12,3 million, MagLev with
passengers, mail and valuables
Strategy: It's always the same: very long distances,
full-sized fastest trains, and fastest full planes.
Using several trains for the same track, have to be
careful with the crosses, signals and stations you want to
send the train to, cause it will look for the shortest and sometimes wrong
way. Getting the limit of vehicles I have built the fastest train (Lev4 Chimaera, 652
km/h) as a one-headed (not two) nine-wagon train and increase its capacity. See
my two lovely 90 years-old holiday steam trains rounding the whole map...
Comments: There is a maximum amount of money for the company
value, as occurs in TT Original: $4,294,600,000. When reached this
cypher, company value becomes a negative number (-$4.29 billion!).
This savegame reaches that limit in two or three minutes, so you
have to spend money everywhere to go on playing (funding new
buildings, preferably).
- Lolailow@hotmail.com
Game version: TT Original
Company Name: Bullshit
Cash on hand: $4,278,210,098 ($4.28 billion)
Profit: over $310 million a year
Date: August 2020
Difficulty: Custom (harder than hard, 4 competitors)
Map: Random renamed
Rating: 1000, TYCOON
Vehicles: 26 trains, 76 road vehicles, 20 aircraft, 4 ships (total 126)
Most profitable vehicle: over $12 million, 9 wagon valuables monorail
Strategy: Very long distance trains, principally of coal and
valuables, using an only train by track without crosses nor signals. If you
make a good job, it's possible extract up to 1,680 tons of coal of an only
mine and 1,737 bags of valuables of an only bank.
Comments: There is a maximum amount of money:
$4,294,600,000. If hit this number, bank balance becomes red
and you OWE $4.29 billion! Even you can't plant a simple tree cause have not enogh
money! Before this point, some vehicles begin to take their
incomes as losses, reaching up to over $50 million a year losses, so you have
to spend the money as you knew. I recommend fund new buildings,
although this will get up inflation, costs and, of course, profits.
- Lolailow@hotmail.com
Game version: TT Original
Company Name: Abstemy
Cash on hand: $1,019,586,826 ($1.02 billion)
Profit: over $350 million a year
Date: Jun 2033
Difficulty: Custom (harder than hard, 3 competitors)
Map: Random alcoholic renamed
Rating: 896, Chairman
Vehicles: 22 trains, 80 road vehicles, 8 aircraft (total 110)
Most profitable vehicle: over $78 million!, 9 wagon
passenger/mail monorail
Strategy: Very long distance trains, principally of coal,
oil and valuables, using an only train by track. Sometimes it's profitable
make a very expensive platform of land near two or more oil rigs, to build trains
which takes the productions. Road vehicles only gives you a really good
profit if are busses, and some mail or valuables trucks.
- Lolailow@hotmail.com
Game version: TT Original

Date: 2026
Difficulty: Custom (3 competitors)
Map: Random Science Men renamed

- Stepan Chizhov
Game version: TT Deluxe
Cash: $2,000,000,000
Date: 2050
Difficulty: Hard
Map: Random, Arctic climate
Rating: 948
Comments: You just need to deliver coal and wood from one end of map to another.
- Bob Cousins
Game version: TT Deluxe
Cash: $2,500,000,000
Date: 2050
Difficulty: Hard
Map: Random, Temperate
Rating: 973 (Tycoon of the Century)
Rivals: None worth speaking of
Comments: Primary transport is rail, with support from other modes.
Early stages, use trains to exploit coal, then wood, then iron
ore->steel->goods. Later passengers/mail and goods, oil. Use hovercraft for
passengers, and oil tankers until trains are built. Use only supersonic aircraft
with large airports. Use buses for building up cities.
I'm amazed that I still love playing this game and each time I find some way to
improve...
- Jim Zhou/Peter Jiang
Version: TT Original
Cash: $2,000,000,000 (estimated)
Year: 2010
Difficuly: Custom (1 competitor bankrupted)
Most profitable vehicle: $90,000
Map: Random
- David Burgess
Game version: TT original
Cash: $2,147,800,000 (last six figures approximate)
Date: About 2060
Difficulty: Hard
Map: Random
Rating: 904
Rivals: just horizontal lines at the bottom of all the performance
graphs!
Most profitable vehicle: $13,456,282 (That great coal rush of the late
21st century!)
Comments: The amount I have in the bank is apparently the maximum the
game allows. As soon as I reach it, even though all my vehicles make the
same amount of money, I start making a loss every year, so I do lots of
construction to spend some money and get
my profits back up!
- David Pardy
Game version: TT Origional
Cash: about $360,000,000
Date: 2030

Cash on hand: about $714,000,000
Date: November 21, 2069
Competition: None
Vehicles: 15 road vehicles, 80 trains

Totally neglected passenger/mail service till around 2060."

- Darrin Goodman
Game version: TT Original
Cash on hand: about $850,000,000
Rating at end of game: 888 (Mogul)
Comments: "I literally became board of the game and stopped playing, I did
have a goal to see if I could get up to a billion $ but just keeping up with
replacement of vehicles was such a chore I never let it get that far...
I'm also raising a future Tycooner -- my four and a half year
old boy loves the game and can spend 10 to 15 million dollars in a
couple of years just building and crashing trains (his own of course)...
can't seem to get him to understand 'make money, not blow it up!'"
- Satya
Game version: TT Deluxe
Cash on hand: about $690,000,000
Scenario: Money Grows on Trains (available from the Downloads page)
Strategies: Used railroads only for making a small initial profit
of about 5 million. Waited until monorails became available, then built huge network
using monorails only. Used maglevs for isolated, small-scale sections,
mostly transporting raw materials (copper, rubber, fruit, maize)
from several producers to one or two factories/food processing plants.
- Satya
Game version: TT Deluxe
Date: February 2070
Cash on hand: about $639,000,000
Scenario: AusTrans Corp. map, tropical climate, made by Lasse Hovlandsdal.
Vehicles: 56 trains, 25 road vehicles
Notes: Three of the competitors did well (very unusual concerning the
stupidity of the AI), but the fourth went bankrupt. Bought 75% of the
rivals early in the game and then sold the shares for a huge profit.

- Satya
Game version: TT Deluxe
Date: June 2069
Starting Date: 1975
Cash on hand: about $416,000,000 (208 million pounds)
Strategies: Only used one train during entire game! The trick was
to invest 75% in all the rival companies, and let them make money for you.
